Vista Anti-Virus Options

Most new Vista PC’s and Laptops come with a suite of applications and software that is a free trial, and when the trial is over, the applications shut down. In many cases, your Anti-Virus is one of them.

Vista has Windows Firewall and Windows Defender (Anti-Spyware) bundled into the Operating System, and included during Windows Update. That means in most cases a Firewall/Anti-Spyware/Anti-Virus software suite is overkill, and can cause more problems than it fixes, like network bottlenecks, redundant processes, and redundant filters blocking operations.

You may want to consider these “Anti-Virus only” solutions:

  • AVG 7.5 Free or Pro Versions (the new AVG v8 now has everything, but can easily be disabled)
  • Avira AntiVir
  • BitDefender
  • Kaspersky

There are others, but these are known to perform well on Vista.
